The aim of this project is to identify links to sustainability topics in current teaching and to develop, test and evaluate approaches that focus on green and sustainable chemistry and take into account multiple perspectives.

For a more conscious handling of mathematical models, these are developed by learners themselves in order to explain chemical facts or solve problems.
Action research focusing on participation and subject education is used to investigate how mathematical modeling can be taught in chemistry and how understanding in the area of modeling processes can be optimally promoted.

By means of concept maps, the intra- and interdisciplinary interconnections of the contents of studying chemistry shall be clarified and conveyed. Additional eye-tracking studies will be used to analyze the effects of the concept maps on students' understanding of the interconnections.

Virtual laboratories offer the opportunity to integrate various aspects of experimentation and visualisation into chemistry studies or chemistry lessons. Here we show the perspectives for chemistry education and what has already been realised as part of the project.

It is questionable whether science and technology can still be clearly separated in today's world. Making learners aware of the connection between the two subjects as early as the experimentation phase creates a completely new understanding of subject-specific interrelationships and is used profitably in English-speaking countries. In this project, this concept shall be adapted for Germany.

The project will investigate to what extent the "nano-level" can facilitate students’ understanding when viewing the world in the teaching of chemistry, which usually takes place either at the macroscopic or directly at the atomic level.
