Welcome to the research field of surface physics

In the field of surface physics, we investigate structural and electronic properties of nanostructured surfaces, new materials and molecules on surfaces. Of particular interest are systems in which electron correlations lead to unusual effects, especially at low dimensions, such as the formation of a Luttinger liquid in one-dimensional systems. We mainly use low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (LT-STM) and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (LT-STS) at 5 Kelvin, which enable measurements with atomic spatial resolution and spectroscopy with high energy resolution.
