Ethics for agriculture

As part of the module "Socio-cultural dimensions of rural development", we cordially invite you to a digital lecture and subsequent discussion on the topic of "An ethics for agriculture" with Dr. Christian Dürnberger (University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna).

Farmers are currently facing new challenges: Their work is controversial, society's knowledge of food production is low - but the expectations placed on agriculture are not. In this field of tension, farmers should not only live up to their special responsibility, but more than that: they should be available to answer questions in the debates.

Ethical reflection is therefore part of the modern agricultural profession: farmers should act in a value-conscious manner and increasingly speak out in social debates.

Ethics for agriculture, in other words. But what are ethics? How can the new social expectations be described? And what does responsibility mean in terms of food, the environment, climate and animals?
