Short profile

Nora Schütze is a postdoctoral researcher at the Section of International Agricultural Policy and Environmental Governance. She teaches on the Bachelor’s program and works in the DFG-research unit Kili-SES “The role of nature for human well-being in the Kilimanjaro Social-Ecological System” (05/ 2025 – 04/2029). The aim of the project is to understand the role of governance and institutions for social-ecological transformations to enhance resilience and sustainability of local communities in the Kilimanjaro region.

Before, she has worked in several research projects, including the PRIMA-funded BONEX-Project (05/2022 – 04/2025) on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus in the Mediterranean; the GIZ-funded research project GovSoil on soil and water conservation in rainfed agriculture in Tunisia (01/2021 – 06/2022), and the BMBF-funded project STEER (06/2017 – 09/2020) which analyzed the influence of governance and management systems on the effectiveness of coordination and cooperation in integrated and adaptive water management.

Nora received her PhD (Dr. rer. pol.) from University of Kassel in 2022 for her dissertation on determinants, patterns, and performance of coordination of polycentric water governance in Spain. The empirical focus of her thesis was on planning and implantation processes of the EU Water Framework Directive that aimed at a reduction of agricultural water consumption in three different Spanish River Basin Districts.
