2019 | October | Construction Chemistry Conference

At the beginning of October, the meeting of the GDCh Construction Chemistry Division was held in Aachen. After workshops on electrochemistry and acid resistance of mineral building materials, lectures on the second day focused on sustainable chemistry, corrosion and durability, polymeric materials, new binders and special building materials. The department was represented by Prof. Bernhard Middendorf, Mr. Schade (M.Sc) and Mr. Wiemer (M.Sc). Mr. Schade gave a lecture on the topic: Comparative investigations for the analysis of the setting process of alkaline activated binders.

In his lecture, Mr. Schade presented results of the setting behavior of different granulated blastfurnace slags by means of Vicat test (DIN EN 196-3) and ultrasonic testing. These were further verified by in-situ Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) measurements.

Mr. Wiemer presented in a poster paper titled "Bond behavior between metallic microfibers and ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC)", a procedure for in-line fiber pull-out tests. In addition, results were presented on the bond behavior in the adhesive as well as frictional bond of steel fibers with brass coating, stainless steel fibers as well as nickel-titanium shape memory alloys.
