Despite the current Corona situation, Prof. Middendorf and Ms. Umbach did not let themselves be deterred from presenting their scientific results to the professional public. On February 23, 2021, Prof. Middendorf gave a lecture online at the 65th BetonTage 2021 on sustainable and ecological ultra-high performance concretes (UHPCs) and explained that these fiber-reinforced UHPCs can also be produced with up to 40 wt.% substitution of the binder content by cement substitutes (SCM). It was also reported in the presentation that with any CEM I cements, using Brazilian cements as an example, the production of UHPC is possible without any problems even with the use of SCMs if the packing density is adjusted. With the approach of partially substituting the binder mixture of cement and silica fume by SCMs, a reduction of the_{CO2 footprint in} the order of 10-23% could be achieved, which shows the UHPC to be even more sustainable.
