Research

The research focus of the Construction and Maintenance of Traffic Routes department is the development, testing and evaluation of durable road pavements. In addition to the projects on the testing and development of innovative road construction materials carried out in the road construction laboratory, theoretical foundations are laid for determining the durability of road pavements.

Current research projects:

• KaWeBE: Further development of the initial testing of emulsion-bound asphalt mixes (BMDV), since 01/2023
• Asphalt-Protect: Quality assurance of asphalt components for durable asphalt pavements in tropical countries (BMBF), since 02/2025
• SIM-RAPID: Multidimensional simulation and measurement of the reactivation process of bitumen in asphalt granulate (DFG), since 06/2025
• NaReTe: Sustainable recycling of tar roads (LOEWE joint project with Stutz GmbH), since 12/2025
