Trans-Net: Coping with new transformative challenges to landuse in Mongolia

The German-Mongolian network “Trans-Net – Coping with New Transformative Challenges to Land Use in Mongolia” aims to strengthen research and education for sustainable land use under rapidly changing socio-ecological conditions.
Through close cooperation between universities and ministries in Germany and Mongolia, Trans-Net fosters an interdisciplinary exchange among scientists, students, and decision-makers. The project investigates how mining activities transform pastoral landscapes, ecosystems, and livelihoods, and develops pathways for sustainable rural development and resource management.
Trans-Net builds on the expertise of six partner institutions and connects research on land use, livestock systems, environmental health, and social change. The network also lays the foundation for a future SDG Graduate School in Mongolia to train a new generation of internationally engaged scholars and practitioners.
