Request backup service: instructions and notes

Below you will find all the important information you need to fill in the form as well as instructions that you should follow when registering.

Your e-mail address will be used to inform you about incorrect or incomplete data backups.

When you applied for network access, you received a computer name and an IP address from the IT Service Center. This information makes your computer unique in the network. Enter this information in the fields provided.

You can choose whether you want to back up your data manually or both manually and automatically.

• Manual backup: You can start this yourself at any time.
• Automatic backup: Here it is necessary to specify a desired time at which the backup should be carried out daily. Please note that the system cannot always adhere to this time. The automatic backup may be delayed by a few minutes or, in rare cases, even hours. This can be caused by bottlenecks in the backup system and cannot be influenced by the system administrator.

Enter the time at which the automatic backup should be performed. Please select a time after 12 noon, as the mornings are reserved for maintenance work.

In order to be able to use the time-controlled automatic backup under Linux, it is necessary to request this on the request form so that the backup administrator can enter the desired time to start the backup in the backup server.

Enter the maximum required data storage in gigabytes (GB) here. The memory requirement must be specified in the range 0.1GB to 999.9GB.

Enter your cost center or project number here. Also name the person responsible for the cost center or project and have them or an authorized person sign in the field provided after printing out the form. The application cannot be processed without this signature.

This section is completed by the ITS and contains the authorization data required to use the backup service. Once the application has been processed, a copy of the application form will be sent back to you.
