EU Industry Pathways

In collaboration with the Wuppertal Institute and in partnership with the client, Agora Industry, the department is conducting scenario analyses on the transformation of Europe’s basic industries. The analysis compares a scenario focused on the use of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) with scenarios involving the electrification of industry. The latter could make the production system more resilient in the long term, but could also potentially lead to significant relocations of production sites within Europe.
The project team is examining and comparing the different scenarios in terms of their greenhouse gas reduction effects, as well as the costs and resilience of value chains.
In addition to sensitivity analyses, stress tests are being conducted to model extreme situations in energy and product markets as well as temporary disruptions in supply chains.
