Thermal Energy Technology
Thermal Energy Engineering covers all aspects of energy conversion, storage, and transport in machines and devices, with the exception of electrical energy, and thus constitutes a central and comprehensive field within the engineering sciences.
A defining feature is the diversity of its subject matter, stemming from the study of processes and media involved in the conversion, storage, and transport of chemical, thermal, kinetic, and potential energy—a diversity that both promotes and requires flexible and interdisciplinary work.
The focal points of the individual subfields are selected so that, taken together, they cover the entire chain of energy provision—from solar energy, for example, through heat and mass transfer, to conversion into mechanical energy (powering machinery or serving as an interface to electrical power engineering) as well as thermal energy (process and space heating).
