Kassel University Library - State Library and Murhard Library of the City of Kassel is a library system at six university locations. The largest location is the campus library at Holländischer Platz, which also houses the library administration. Five others are located in the city of Kassel and in Witzenhausen. In addition to the tasks of a university library, it fulfills the mission of a regional library (collection and indexing of regional literature) as well as that of an academic citizens' library for the region. Outstanding historical holdings such as the Hildebrandlied or the Willehalm Codex are also among the library's special collections.

Kassel University Library is involved in openness initiatives: it actively promotes open access and open data activities and participates in the development of open source products.
