Kassel University Library receives OPEN LIBRARY BADGE 2025
Image: Fiiona KörnerThe award certifies the Kassel University Library's best practice in key categories such as free access to knowledge, promotion of open access, transparent communication and the provision of teaching materials under open licenses.
The Open Library Badge initiative has been active in the academic library sector since 2016. A jury of representatives from the specialist library community awards the certificate according to clearly defined criteria. It is awarded to institutions that enable open and equal access, make processes and costs transparent, promote open access, provide teaching and learning materials under open licenses and enable the free use of media. In doing so, they strengthen free access to knowledge and make an important contribution to science and society.
Arvid Deppe, responsible for research-related services at Kassel University Library, emphasizes: "Social participation and scientific progress are based on the accessibility of information - this is our mission and our self-image."
The award of the Open Library Badge illustrates how Kassel University Library, as an open educational and cultural institution, is committed to free access to knowledge and thus actively contributes to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Claudia Martin-Konle, Senior Library Director, is delighted with the recognition: "The award confirms our course and makes our commitment to openness more visible."
