Introduction
Our building is still being renovated. As a result, it is unfortunately not yet possible to present our highly sensitive and unique manuscript treasures such as the Hildebrandlied, the Willehalm or the 1400-year-old 'Flavius Josephus' in the new exhibition space.
However, in order to be able to present the new exhibition vault in 'exhibition mode' and make the room come alive, we are presenting high-quality reproductions of medieval and early modern manuscripts and maps (so-called facsimiles).
Our opening exhibition, with which we inaugurate the new exhibition vault, revolves around the theme of new beginnings.
In and with particularly beautiful manuscripts from book collections all over the world, we are therefore showing 'new beginnings' in our facsimile exhibition.
Here, 'new beginnings' can be found on a small scale, very specifically in the individual depictions. But also 'new beginnings' and 'upheavals' in a figurative sense. 'New beginnings' - to new worlds - to new ages - to a new understanding of the world.
We present manuscripts and maps from various cultures from the Carolingian period to the 16th century;
and explore with you world, natural and celestial history as well as the history and development of European book art.
Join us on a journey of discovery into the imaginative and opulent pictorial worlds of the manuscripts on display here from all over the world.
