Durchgangsärzte - D-doctors

The "Durchgangsärzte/-ärztinnen" (D-doctors) are specialists in surgery and orthopedics with special knowledge and experience in the entire field of accident medicine, appointed by the state associations of the industrial trade associations. They are to provide medical assurance of the quality and effectiveness of rehabilitation.

Doctors and companies are obliged to immediately present insured persons who are unable to work to a D-doctor.

For physicians, this obligation also applies if the insured person is expected to require treatment for more than one week.

The D-doctor decides whether the insured person requires special specialist or accident medical care.
