You can complete your block internship as early as the second semester. This option is particularly interesting for career changers or students changing degree courses. For students with a "regular course of study", the third semester is recommended for the SPS I.

Registration takes place one semester in advance. The registration deadline is 3 weeks. You can register for the summer semester in October/November and for the winter semester in April.

• You will first take part in a course (2 SWS) to prepare for your internship during the semester.
• At the end of the semester, you will go to an internship school for 5 weeks during the lecture-free period (in the summer semester this is usually in September / in the winter semester usually in March). There you will visit your school for at least 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, take part in observations and events and carry out your first teaching experiments.
• Finally, the internship evaluation takes place, where you prepare a report and evaluate the course (also during the lecture-free period).

The block internship is strenuous and labor-intensive! Please do not underestimate it. It is unlikely that you will be able to do homework for other seminars or prepare for exams at the same time as the block internship.

The prerequisite for SPS I is proof of an orientation internship and the completion of module 1b in the core study program.

The internship abroad offers you the opportunity to complete your internship at a school abroad of your choice. This applies to all subjects.

The practical school studies are generally unpaid. You cannot take on any paid work (e.g. substitute teaching at school) as part of the practical school studies.

Please note that, in your own interest, you cannot attend any other events during the block internship. For most interns, experiencing everyday school life for at least four hours a day is more strenuous than previously expected and should not be misunderstood as a half-day job.

No exemptions can be granted for exams, tutorials or other internships.

The University of Kassel will not require a certificate of good conduct from you. However, your internship school may request this.

For the teacher training courses, the module examination regulations (L3) of the University of Kassel provide for three internships, the practical school studies (SPS for short).

Please note that students on the L1 and L2 degree programs do not complete School Practical Studies I, but the practical semester.

The SPS I are assigned to the core study program (module 10).

The legal basis currently consists of three regulations:

Firstly, by the provisions laid down in the Teacher Training Act (HLbG) in §15 para. 3/4/5, which are secondly regulated in more detail in the Ordinance on the Implementation of the Hessian Teacher Training Act (HLbGDV) in §22. Thirdly, the Hessian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs - as you can also see from the HLbG in §15 para. 3 - gives the universities autonomy of action with regard to the concrete design of the internship regulations. Consequently, this is specified in the Regulations for Practical School Studies at the University of Kassel (OSS-UGK).

If you have completed module 1b in your core studies and the Teacher Training Advisory Service has recognized your orientation internship, you can register and complete the block internship. As a rule, registration takes place in the 2nd semester and consequently the internship is completed in the 3rd semester. Registration generally takes place one semester in advance.

Please register in October/November for the summer semester . For the winter semester , please register in April/May.

The deadline for registration is always 3 weeks. During this time, you can register for the SPS I via eCampus "my functions - examination administration". We will announce the exact period here on the website of the Department of Practical School Studies.

Your block internship, i.e. your stay at the school, takes place during the lecture-free period.

During this time, you will be at the school for at least 20 hours per week for 5 weeks. Please note the times for your planning.

First, you will be informed by e-mail which group you have been assigned to and the name of your university supervisor.

The allocation will be announced by e-mail as follows:
For the winter semester: September 01
For the summer semester: March 01

In particular, personal details about teachers, students and their legal guardians may not appear in written evaluations of the practical school studies. Students are therefore obliged to change all names in the theory-practice reports.
