SPS II

The content on this page was translated automatically.

The SPS II is designed to give you an in-depth insight into the activities of subject teachers. To this end, you will permanently accompany a specific course or class in your subject over the course of a semester. You will be able to apply the subject-specific didactic knowledge you have acquired in advance in specially designed and implemented teaching experiments. Throughout the entire period, you will be supervised by school and university staff.

Different regulations apply for graduates of the practical semester. They also complete an additional internship (didactic course related to teaching), but the didactics department is responsible for organizing this. You will find information on this in the module examination regulations that apply to you. As a rule, after completing the practical semester, students complete the SPS II in the subject in which the practical semester was not taken (L2) or in their third subject (L1).

Practical school studies II / didactic course with teaching relevance

You can find the registration in eCampus under"My functions - Exam administration - Registration for SPS II Teacher Training"
Registration is complete as soon as you have filled in the fields, there is no extra "Save" button.
Registration for SPS II is also possible if you have not yet completed SPS I in full. If you are not allowed to successfully complete SPS I as planned, please deregister from SPS II in your department!

Please note

  • The organization of the internships and the content is carried out by the didactics department. Please contact the relevant didactics department with any further questions about the SPS II.
  • You can only register for the SPS II in one subject via HISPOS. It is therefore not possible to register for two subjects at the same time.
  • In some institutions, preliminary discussions take place before the start of the SPS II; these appointments are mandatory! Please contact the departments for more information.
  • Business education, physics, general studies and sport! These subjects do not take part in the central registration via the Schuperaktische Studien department, please inform yourself via the didactics departments!
  • Catholic Religion: Since the SPS II in Catholic Religion is only held in the summer semester, the registration period is therefore only open in the winter semester before.

You can complete the SPS II in the third (L3/L4) or fourth or fifth (L1/L2) semester at the earliest. For students with a "standard course of study" (i.e. no career changers), completion in the 5th and 7th semester has proven to be a good recommendation. Due to modularization, you are basically free to decide when you would like to start your internships. As a guide, it is worth looking at the sample timetables of your module examination regulations.

Registration takes place one semester in advance.

The internships take place during the semester:

  • You attend a course (2 SWS)
  • You accompany a class, whereby the number of hours is individual and depends on the supervised course (basic and advanced courses)
  • There are usually preparatory and follow-up events

As the exact implementation and organization of the SPS II is the responsibility of the subject didactics, we are unfortunately unable to provide more detailed information on the specific content and structure at this point. If it is important for you to find out more about the organization in advance, please contact the didactics department directly.

The prerequisite for SPS II is successful participation in SPS I (L3 & L4) or the practical semester (L1 & L2).

Organization & implementation

The subject didactics departments are responsible for the implementation of the SPS II. The Department for Practical School Studies only organizes the registration. There are exceptions to this in the subjects of sport, physics, general studies and economics. Here, the subject didactics departments also take care of registration themselves.

You can withdraw from the SPS II up to 4 weeks before the start of the semester. Please cancel with the responsible didactics department.

If you fail to attend the SPS II without an excuse, you will lose your entitlement to a work placement or, in some institutions, will be subject to more severe sanctions.

The internship abroad offers you the opportunity to complete your internship at a school abroad of your choice. This applies to all subjects.

The practical school studies are generally unpaid. You cannot take on any paid work (e.g. substitute teaching at school) as part of the practical school studies. In addition, unsupervised teaching assignments at school, for example as part of the Teaching Guarantee Plus, are not recognized as SPS under any circumstances.

As you will generally only be informed of your attendance times in schools during your SPS II seminars, you may have to adjust your timetable afterwards; unfortunately, this cannot be avoided.

No exemptions can be granted for examinations, tutorials or other practicals.

The University of Kassel will not require a certificate of good conduct from you. However, your internship school may request this.

According to § 30a para. 1 no. 2 lit. b Federal Central Register Act

For the teacher training courses, the module examination regulations (L3) of the University of Kassel provide for three internships, the practical school studies (SPS for short).

Please note that students on the L1 and L2 degree programs do not complete School Practical Studies I, but the practical semester.

The legal basis currently consists of three regulations:

Firstly, by the provisions laid down in the Teacher Training Act (HLbG) in §15 para. 3/4/5, which are secondly regulated in more detail in the Ordinance on the Implementation of the Hessian Teacher Training Act (HLbGDV) in §22. Thirdly, the Hessian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs - as you can also see from the HLbG in §15 para. 3 - gives the universities autonomy of action with regard to the concrete design of the internship regulations. Consequently, this is specified in the Regulations for Practical School Studies at the University of Kassel (OSS-UGK).

All factual and personal data obtained during the practical school studies must be treated confidentially. In particular, personal details about teachers, students and their legal guardians may not appear in written evaluations of the practical school studies. Students are therefore obliged to change all names in the theory-practice reports.
