Psychoanalysis

Welcome to the Section of Psychoanalysis

It is a unique selling point of the University of Kassel that psychoanalysis is an integral part of teacher training. As is evident today, it has lost none of its topicality. Many ways of reacting in individuals, institutions and societies are obviously fed by irrational (unconscious) sources, as shown, for example, by the recurring denial of the danger of death by COVID-19, but also by the processes of division in Western societies, the worldwide increase of populist and authoritarian currents, and the refusal to empathize with particularly vulnerable groups in our society. Psychoanalysis, through its specific knowledge of unconscious fantasies and conflicts, can contribute to the understanding of such "irrational" but highly effective phenomena in individuals, groups and culture.
