ITALICUM

Since the winter semester 2016/17, students and doctoral candidates from all departments at the University of Kassel have had the opportunity to acquire a certificate (called ITALICUM) for interdisciplinary Italian competence during their studies.

The ITALICUM includes the teaching of Italian-related specialist knowledge on culture, history, philosophy, literature and art as well as language courses to acquire and expand foreign language skills.

The aims of the additional qualification, which was created by the University of Kassel's Italy Network, are to promote an examination of intercultural and transcultural identities and diversities, to support international encounters and cooperation and to promote intercultural competence and European awareness through a comprehensive interdisciplinary program in the form of courses, workshops and excursions both in Kassel and elsewhere, not least on site in Italy. The Department of Historical Musicology at the Institute of Music has been cooperating with the Italy network since the winter semester 2024/25 and therefore regularly offers courses that are also open to the ITALICUM.
