Consultation hours for reading mentors

In cooperation with Mentor Nordhessen, the Integrated Study Workshop invites interested reading mentorsto a specialist consultation hour.

Together with academicsfrom the ISW directorate, specific cases from reading and/or spelling support will be discussed.

The aim is to develop individual approaches and effective support options that can be applied directly in practice.

Brief description of the case study that will guide the workshop discussions:

A child who has only recently arrived in Germany initially makes little contact with his reading mentor and shows little interest in reading together. The situation changes when another child comes into care: the first conversations and shared reading phases in tandem develop with the other child. The case invites us to look at the situation from the child's perspective: How does a child who does not yet share a common language with the other person experience a relationship offer? What role do speechlessness and foreignness - but also the child's own linguistic and cultural resources - play in building trust? And how can these resources be made visible and used in the reading mentor program?

Clarissa Becker, a cooperation partner from the Diversity, Heterogeneity and Inclusion Study and Research Workshop (StuDIo) at the University of Kassel, will contribute a special perspective on different living environments as a starting point for shaping educational relationships.
