Registration for courses

Registration for Sprachpraxis courses in the winter semester of 2026–27 is now open via the new eCampus system. Below is a letter from Fiona Dancy on behalf of the Sprachpraxis team.

Dear Students,

This email / handout explains how to secure a spot in an English Sprachpraxis class this semester (if you do not want a spot in an English Sprachpraxis class this semester, you can stop reading here). Here is our proposal:

English 1 students

You can sign up for more than one English 1 class by ranking them in order of preference. If you want an English 1 class, please sign up on eCampus, prioritizing as many classes as you can take or as the system allows, by 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14. (If you’ve already done this, you do NOT need to do it again.) After this deadline, I will assign students to English 1 classes with the goal of giving as many students as possible their first choice while keeping class sizes roughly the same. You will be able to see which class you have a spot in because it will then say “ZU” (“zugelassen”) instead of “AN” (“angemeldet”). The other classes you applied for will say “ST” (“storniert”).

If you want to switch classes, or if you missed the registration deadline, you will be able to apply for a class yourself starting at noon on Thursday, October 15. I will then fill the classes roughly in the order in which applications are received.

I don’t think it will be possible for you to secure spots on eCampus for more than one English 1 class. This means that if you want a second class, you should attend the first session of the class you’re interested in to try to secure a spot that way.

A few general points

• If you don’t provide alternatives, you risk not getting a spot at all.
• Anyone who applies for a spot between 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, and noon on Thursday, October 15, will have their spot canceled to avoid confusion.

English 2 and 3 students

It appears that you can sign up for more than one English 2 or English 3 class, but you cannot specify preferences. If you want an English 2 or English 3 class, please sign up for as many as fit your schedule by 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 24. (If you have already done so, you do NOT need to do it again.) After this deadline, I will assign students to classes with the goal of placing as many students as possible in a class while keeping class sizes roughly the same. You’ll be able to see which class you’ve been assigned to because it will say “ZU” (“zugelassen”) instead of “AN” (“angemeldet”). The other classes you applied for will say “ST” (“storniert”).

If you want to switch classes, if you missed the deadline, or if you want a second or third class, you will be able to apply for classes again starting Friday, September 25. I will then fill the classes roughly in the order in which applications were received.

• Anyone who applies for a spot between 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, and 9 a.m. on Friday, September 25, will have their spot canceled to avoid confusion.

We hope the system will work at least as well as it did last semester. We encourage you to attend the first session of any class for which you are registered (“AN”) or on the waiting list (“WL”) if you want that spot. It is, of course, possible not to register on eCampus at all and simply attend the first session to see if you can get a spot. However, you will be placed at the back of the queue behind those who have attempted to register for that class.
