All teacher trainees at the University of Kassel get the opportunity to gain practical experience in a number of school internships that serve to ensure among other things a conscious career choice and awareness of the profession.
At least one of these internships (in the subject of English) is completed in the department of Foreign Language Teaching and Learning Research & Intercultural Communication. The internships consist of sitting in on classes, practical teaching experience, assessed classroom visits and an accompanying seminar. At school, students are supported and supervised by an experienced mentor teacher. At the university, they are taught and supervised by pedagogical staff. The school mentor receives a small financial compensation.

Through learning and working in small groups, students' competencies in terms of reflective skills, metacognition, and educational science knowledge are enhanced with regard to future professional activities, and career choices are solidified.
