Linguistics section at the Francoromanistiktag 2026 in Kassel: Emotion and communication
Prof. Dr. Angela Schrott and Larissa Werle will be leading a section on "Emotion and Communication at the Francoromanistiktag in Kassel (29.09. - 02.10.2026). Digital spaces as a resource for conveying emotions".
The central topic of the section will be the question of the extent to which new digital formats represent a resource for the linguistic and multimodal communication of emotions. One focus will be on the thematization of emotions in digital communities that are connected by shared experiences and interests. Another area is the simulation of emotions by AI agents that people turn to in search of emotional support. The section has a linguistic focus, but is explicitly open to literary and cultural studies perspectives, thus enabling broad methodological reflection.

International DAAD model project Changes launched
At a hybrid kick-off conference at the end of September, the University of Kassel launched a five-year, internationally networked project on teacher education for sustainable development: The DAAD model project Changes (Exploring Critical Sustainable Development Education form Global Perspectives) is coordinated by the Center for Teacher Education (ZLB) and funded by the DAAD with 600,000 euros.
Changes will take place from 2025 to 2029 and connects universities in Argentina, Indonesia, Canada, South Africa and Germany.
We have established two collaborations in the field of Romance studies:
We have been working closely with the Universidad Nacional de San Martín in Argentina and the Université du Québec à Trois Rivières in Canada for a long time.
This means that two of the four international partner universities in Changes can be traced back to Romance studies initiatives.

CALAS in KASSEL!
CALAS in KASSEL! From February 10-12, a CALAS conference took place under the theme "Afrontar las crisis: Perspectivas desde América latina". One topic was the question of how horizontal knowledge building can contribute to a fairer society.
Everyone is talking about interdisciplinarity: easy to say, often difficult to do. This volume, recently edited by Prof. Angela Schrott, shows how interdisciplinary cooperation can work in practice.
In 10 chapters, linguists and social scientists, historians and musicologists, literary scholars and communication scientists from Europe and Latin America dare to exchange ideas - with the aim of making thinking between the disciplines tangible and practicable.
