Part-Time Research Assistant (m/f/d) (26 hours/week) Wanted: Applications due by October 8, 2026

In the Department of Social Sciences, Institute of Social Sciences—Division of International Relations with a focus on Latin America (Prof. Dr. Kristina Dietz), the following position is available as of January 1, 2027:

Research Assistant (m/f/d), Pay Grade 13 TV-H, fixed-term, part-time (currently 26 hours per week)

Part-time at 65.00 percent of the regular working hours of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited until December 31, 2029, as part of the externally funded project “PALMWORK,” in accordance with the German Act on Fixed-Term Contracts in Academia (WissZeitVG). There is an opportunity to pursue a Ph.D.

PALMWORK examines the relationship between labor and ecology along the palm oil value chain, particularly in the areas of production (plantations and oil mills) and social reproduction. The project is designed as a qualitative comparative analysis of case studies from Northeast India, Ghana, and Colombia. It builds on research in the fields of labor regime analysis, (feminist) labor geography, environmental labor studies, and political ecology regarding the materiality of nature and the metabolism between society and nature. The project is funded as part of the DFG Priority Program 2575, “Sustainability and Resilience of Agricultural and Food Supply Chains in Times of Multiple Crises?” It consists of three subprojects being carried out at the University of Bonn, the Free University of Berlin, and the University of Kassel.
