Pamela Kenne
CAPES-PDSE Fellow
Pamela Kenne is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, and a CAPES-PDSE fellow conducting part of her doctoral research at the Department of International Relations with a focus on Latin America at the University of Kassel, from September 2026 to February 2027, under the supervision of Prof. Kristina Dietz and as part of her PhD research supervised by Prof. Paulo Niederle (UFRGS) and Prof. Moises Balestro (UNB). Your research investigates how ecological transition policies, green taxonomies, and environmental governance frameworks mediate new forms of land and water grabbing and reshape territorial dynamics.
Her work has focused on the transformations of agrarian capitalism, agro-export economies, and rural development in Southern Brazil, with particular attention to the role of institutions in shaping social and territorial change. She is a member of the Research Group on the Sociology of Food Practices (SOPAS/UFRGS), where discussions on food systems, sustainability and sociotechnical transitions have contributed to the development of her current research. The research stay at the Department of International Relations with a focus on Latin America at the University of Kassel will deepen these discussions by situating them within broader debates on political ecology and socio-ecological transition, contributing to a comparative analysis of institutional arrangements emerging in Brazil and the European Union. During this period, she will investigate the institutional structures associated with the European Green Deal and conduct place-based case studies.
