R:32 | Summer Semester 2025
At the end of each semester, ASL is transformed into a living laboratory of ideas. The Rundgang is more than just an exhibition - it is a window into the creative and critical examination of our built living spaces. It not only shows what has been developed over the past semester, but also opens up new perspectives and inspires people to further develop their own thinking, design and research.
We cordially invite everyone to take the R:32: Be inspired - and become an inspiration yourself! Whether as students, teachers or visitors: The tour thrives on your curiosity, your thoughts and your commitment.

Ein dritter Ort im Forstfeld
A Third Place in Forstfeld
Department Open Space Planning
In the Forstfeld district of Kassel, a "third place" is being created on a currently unused area - a space for encounters, social interaction and community. The area will be used temporarily until a new district center is built. The exhibition shows the students' ideas and approaches for interim use under the following questions: What does a place that creates identity need? How can participation succeed? How can temporary use provide impetus? And how do planners accompany the process?
Quartier Innenstadt
City Center District
Department Designing in Urban Contexts
The "Quartier Innenstadt" project deals with the transformation of Kassel's city center into a mixed-use (residential) district. The effects of climate change and megatrends are changing city centers and their public spaces - they are under increasing pressure to adapt to societal, climatic, social and economic challenges. In order to meet these challenges, key areas in Kassel's city center were defined and subsequently designed in terms of urban design and landscape architecture. Selected focus areas and first floor zones, which in the past and today are used for retail and other commercial uses, were examined architecturally and transformed using a store as an example.
Metropolitanes (Selbst)Bewusstsein in Frankfurt / Rhein-Main: Strategieentwicklung und Regional Design in einer polyzentralen Metropolregion
Metropolitan (Self-)Awareness in Frankfurt / Rhine-Main: Strategy Development and Regional Design in a Polycentric Metropolitan Region
Department Economics of urban and regional development
What holds the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main metropolitan region together? This question is at the heart of our study project. The focus: regional identity and communication. Mental maps and photo talks were used to analyze perspectives from various sub-regions. Based on this, a regional design process was created - with the aim of developing a sustainable spatial image and a new sense of unity for the region.
Campus-Klima: Analyse von Heat- und Coolspots für eine klimaangepasste Entwicklung
Campus Climate: Analysis of Heat and Cool Spots for Climate-Adapted Development
Department Environmental Meteorology
The design of the campus at HoPla, both the old and the new part, is frequently discussed and often referred to as a heat spot. As part of the project, a GIS-based climate analysis of the University of Kassel campus was carried out. The aim of the project is to create a transparent basis for evaluation and to identify both hotspots and coolspots. In addition, the effectiveness of selected adaptation measures and the microclimatic effects of future campus development were examined.
Fahrradparken in Kassel
Bike Parking in Kassel
Department Urban Regeneration and Planning Theory
Where and how will we park our bikes tomorrow? The interdisciplinary project "Bicycle Parking in Kassel" has looked at precisely this - with fresh ideas, smart concepts and real solutions for the city. Needs, suitable locations and new approaches for better parking facilities were investigated. The results are presented - from the city-wide analysis to concrete measures for a bicycle-friendly Kassel.
