FUSION: Michael Ghyoot | "Two or three things we learnt with reuse…“

Vortrag von Michael Ghyoot (Rotor, Brüssel)

Aufzeichnungen der Veranstaltungen: Vortrag und Diskussion

This lecture will address the question of reusing building materials. It will show how this topic is, for Rotor, a way to explore and question our relationship to the material environment, and how it is designed and built. Incorporating reclaimed materials into a construction does not only call to rethink design strategies, it also necessitates to dig into procedures, technical, economic and normative aspects. The lecture will share some insights and lessons learnt by Rotor throughout this process.

Michael Ghyoot has trained as an architect. In 2008 he joined the non-profit organisation Rotor. Since then, he has been involved in the association's many projects: exhibition making, lectures, assistance to building owners, research efforts... In 2014 he defended his PhD thesis at the Faculty of Architecture of the Université libre de Bruxelles. In 2018 he supervised the edition of Rotor's book Deconstruction et Réemploi [Deconstruction and Reuse]. Since 2019, he orchestrates the FCRBE project (Facilitating the circulation of reclaimed building elements) as part of the Interreg NWE programme.
