Scientific head of the central laboratory for mass spectrometry. This includes the routine analysis of mass spectrometry, the interpretation of spectra and support in scientific questions. In addition, the organisational work in research, education and administration is carried out within the field of nanostructure sciences or the Institute of Chemistry.


"Microreactor-coupled electrospray ionization mass spectrometry: a new tool for the investigation of reactive intermediates in solution". Finished in 2004 at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg. Within the scope of the dissertation, a novel method for the direct detection of reactive intermediates during reactions in solution using microreactor-coupled electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) was optimized and examined for its general applicability. This further developed method allows the mass spectrometric monitoring of reaction processes via the decrease of educts and the associated increase of products and in particular the investigation of reactive intermediates. Basic reaction types in organic chemistry, such as electron transfer-initiated radical cation chain reactions, radical dimerizations, Michael additions and tributyltin hydride-mediated additions, were investigated by mass spectrometry and the occurring radical cations, carbanions and radicals were detected and characterized as reactive intermediates. The large number of reactions investigated impressively demonstrates the broad applicability of microreactor-coupled ESI-MS for the investigation of chemical reactions in solution.
