Field day: Humus in focus - soil fertility in organic farming put to the test
When: July 8, starting at 10:00 a.m.
Healthy soils are the basis of our agriculture. Especially in organic farming, high humus contents are essential for yield formation, but are not always achieved in practice. Our field day will show how soil fertility can be systematically investigated, evaluated and increased: from humus build-up and adapted basic soil cultivation in organic field vegetable production to catch crops and mixed crops, with a view to nutrient dynamics and soil life.
A special focus is on the current discussions about regenerative approaches: Which measures are actually effective? What effects can be observed in practice and where are the limits? We bring together science, expert advice and practice, present results from our ongoing field trials and discuss how findings can be transferred to your own farm.
In addition to insights into ongoing research projects, there will be the opportunity to get to know equipment and practical methods directly in the field, such as various alternatives to technical soil loosening or the management of legumes to promote soil fertility.
Participation is free of charge, registration is requested: https://veranstaltungen.uni-kassel.de/event/feldtag-humus-im-fokus-bodenfruchtbarkeit-im-okolandbau-auf-dem-prufstand
Short film about the training and experimental farm Domäne Frankenhausen
As part of a student project, a short film about the domain was created that is well worth seeing.
Film about our carrot cultivation
At the Hessian state domain Frankenhausen, carrot cultivation is an important pillar of agricultural production. For the marketing initiative "Organic with a face", Ines Reinisch made a film that follows carrot cultivation from sowing to harvesting, storage and marketing.
