Teaching and research

A "Organic Farming Trials" unit was established on the Frankenhausen estate for all trial activities and investigations at the site. Approx. 20 ha are available for plant cultivation trials.

The exact collection and continuous recording of a wide range of farm data is essential for the combination of teaching in the Organic Agriculture course of study in Faculty 11, but also in other courses of study at the University of Kassel and the Frankenhausen teaching and research farm. For example, soil biological, chemical and physical parameters, the keeping of field and stable records, the documentation of landscape development, open bookkeeping, etc. are to be recorded and made traceable. The aim is to make the farm transparent to the outside world and to students. On the one hand, this data is to be incorporated into corresponding lectures/seminars (e.g. soil science, ecology, business management) and on the other, it is to be disclosed during farm visits.
