Courses at the Hessian State Domain Frankenhausen

In the summer semester, full-day plant cultivation practicals for the first three years of study take place on the domain, which supplement and accompany the ongoing lectures. Further exercises such as soil mapping practicals are offered by the Department of Soil Science.

The experimental farm offers ideal opportunities for research-based learning for project work, bachelor's and master's theses. Whether in soil science, plant cultivation, animal husbandry, further processing or in the socio-economic field, topics can be tackled here that are more difficult to tackle on practical farms and can be supported and supplemented by the management of the experimental farm. In student projects, the farm is regularly analyzed with students from a wide variety of perspectives and suggestions are made for further development. The large number of completed projects shows that there is great interest in the domain on the part of students and lecturers (see publications).

A colloquium on current projects and results from the domain takes place regularly in the winter semester in Witzenhausen.

Cereal and root crop days are organized for practitioners and advisors in early summer, at which the respective trials are presented.

For schools, farmers, associations and research institutions, the domain offers guided tours of the farm and the trial fields on request.
