Project "The Political Plant" Receives National Award - Education for Sustainable Development: Realizing the Global Sustainable Development Goals (ESD 2030)

The joint project "The Political Plant" by the Tropical Greenhouse Witzenhausen and the Didactics of Civic Education (both University of Kassel) with the Association of Botanical Gardens (VBG) and the Federal Working Group of State-supported Environmental Education Centers (BANU) receives the National Award - Education for Sustainable Development.

The project, which is funded by the German Federal Foundation for the Environment (DBU), impressed the jury with its exemplary commitment to ESD and special dedication to the Global Sustainability Goals of the United Nations. For this, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German Commission for UNESCO awarded it the National Award - Education for Sustainable Development on October 28.

The award recognizes organizations, networks and communities that are committed to shaping a livable, sustainable society as part of UNESCO's ESD 2030 program. Dr. Andrea Ruyter-Petznek, Head of the Department of Education in Regions, Education for Sustainable Development at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and Dr. Roman Luckscheiter, Secretary-General of the German Commission for UNESCO, honored 22 actors for their outstanding commitment. The award-winning initiatives reach people with innovative educational offers, content and ideas and empower learners to actively and responsibly participate in shaping a sustainable future.

As of now, the project is featured on the UNESCO ESD 2030 program website at  www.unesco.de/bildung/bildung-fuer-nachhaltige-entwicklung/nationale-auszeichnung-bne.
