The new EU pesticide directive

Background: The Farm to Fork Strategy specified the need to develop a new directive on pesticide use in farming in the EU. That way, a significant reduction of pesticide use of 50% was to be achieved in the EU. Further, the question of how to treat Glyphosate in that context looms large, i.e. if it was to be phased out in due course. As a matter of fact, preferences in that regard vary greatly between European member states.

Aim: The aim of this work is to re-construct the policy process that leads up to the re-regulation of pesticides use in the EU. Research questions could be what discourse coalitions exist, how is the participatory process organized, what explains the different positions of actors and what is the (likely) outcome of the process, why? For this matter qualitative interviews and document analysis are necessary.
