Stakeholder Workshop Projekt STEER

Prof. Andreas Thiel and Nora Schütze from this section organised a stakeholder workshop on “Modernization of irrigation, agricultural water consumption and water rights regime in the Guadalquivir”, which took place on February 24, 2020 in the University Pablo de Olavide in Seville, Spain.

Experts from the national water administration, the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, irrigation communities, environmental NGOs, academics and civil society organizations discussed risks and potentials of increasing irrigation efficiency and processes to reduce water rights in agriculture in the Guadalquivir, the largest river basin in Southern Spain. The workshop included presentations by academics, administration and practitioners, as well as group work to enhance discussion between actors from different sectors. The workshop was part of the BMBF-funded research project STEER. It was a follow-up of a workshop organized by the section in June 2019 in Seville, where main findings of the research project were presented.
