Use of the UniKasselClient
Contents

On this page you will learn how you can use the UniKasselClient to work efficiently.
Login to UniKasselClient
You can log in to UniKasselClient via your UniAccount. Please note the following:
- First-time login with LAN connection: To be able to log in, a one-time connection via a LAN connection is required. After the first login, you can also log in without a LAN connection.
- Logging in without a LAN connection: A corresponding VPN connection is required to access all drives and services. Further information on VPN use can be found here: VPN information.
- Special requirements for administrative staff: Administrative staff require an additional group membership to be able to work via VPN. These memberships are assigned decentrally via the respective departments. If you do not know who your contact person is, you are welcome to contact our IT service desk.
Behavior when changing the password of the UniAccount
If you change your password for the UniAccount, you need a connection to the Uninetz so that the password change for the UniKasselClient is accepted.
On site at the University of Kassel:
Here it is sufficient to establish a LAN connection to the university network. The password change is taken over directly by the device.
Mobile working:
When working on the move or without a LAN connection, first log in with the old password. Then establish a VPN connection.

The following also applies here: Administrative employees require the corresponding group membership. These memberships are assigned decentrally via the respective departments. If you do not know who your contact person is, you are welcome to contact our IT service desk.
After a successful VPN connection, a message should appear in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen asking you to log in to Windows with your current login information. Lock your notebook with the key combination Windows key + L and log in with the new password. The UniKasselClient should have accepted the password change.
Important note
If you continue to have problems, connect your notebook once in the office via LAN. This usually ensures complete synchronization.
Use of the UniKasselClient
Each time you log in, your profile is loaded from the server so that user-related settings are transferred. This means that you can log in to any UniKassel client.
Tips for profile maintenance:
- Keep your profile small by not saving files on your desktop and emptying your downloads regularly.
- From an information security point of view, you should not save any passwords in your browser. Use a password manager instead. You can find more information here: Password security.
Special features
For security and licensing reasons, you cannot install software yourself. If you need software, please contact our IT service desk. Our colleagues in first-level support will receive your request, create a qualified ticket and forward it to the relevant departments for further processing. Please understand that we will first check whether the desired software can be installed with regard to data protection and license requirements.
Adobe Creative Cloud products are provided via the software depot. You can find instructions for this under "Instructions for installing Adobe software on UKCs". Please note that it is necessary to apply for the corresponding group membership via identity management in order to be able to use the products.
The setup of Outlook is simplified by group policies. You can find information on this under Outlook setup on UniKasselClients (UKCs).
Coming Soon: In the near future we will introduce the new Uni Kassel Client, which will offer you even more security and improvements. Stay tuned for exciting updates and tutorials!
