UniKasselClient (UKC)

New: The UKC is now also available for deaneries, examination offices and departmental secretariats.

General information

Uni Kassel Clients (UKCs) are centrally managed by the University of Kassel’s IT Service Center and provide automated software and security updates that are delivered directly from a central location. To ensure your device receives the necessary updates, you simply need to be connected to the university’s wired network or establish a VPN connection.

Through centralized device management, the use of preconfigured systems, and our wide range of software solutions, we offer you a highly secure and efficient system. This not only contributes to the security of your data but also increases the efficiency of your work processes.

The IT Service Center uses only certified business-grade hardware from our current framework agreement. The devices currently run on Windows 11. In addition to provisioning, the IT Service Center also handles the professional management and environmentally responsible disposal of the devices at the end of their useful life.

The UKCs offer a comprehensive software portfolio tailored to the various work areas and needs of our users. This allows us to provide solutions that specifically support and simplify your daily work. All devices are delivered fully preconfigured and are ready for immediate use.

You can log in to a UKC using your personal UniAccount. For your first login, you’ll need to connect to the university’s wired network once.

How can I tell if I have a UKC?

All Uni Kassel Clients (UKCs) are provided with a carefully affixed label from the IT Service Center. This label contains important information such as the model designation, the device name, the MAC address, the date of purchase and the warranty end date. This data makes it easier to identify the device and enables quick access to relevant information, especially for support requests.

Hologram sticker:

On newer UKC devices, especially those with Windows 11, there is a special hologram sticker with the UKC raccoon on the front of the notebook. This sticker serves as a clearly visible indication that the device belongs to the Uni Kassel client program.

Label on the underside:

There is another label on the underside of the notebook with important device information. The ITS watermark in the background and the ITS telephone number also make it clear that this is a UKC device.

This information is particularly helpful when contacting the IT service desk or creating a support ticket. Such a label can also be found on other devices, such as printers or monitors, which were purchased as part of the UKC offer.

Matrix42 Software:

If there is no IT service center label on your device, you can still check whether it is a UKC.

In the taskbar, under the hidden icons, you will find the Matrix42 Software Depot application, recognizable by a distinctive purple square. If this symbol is visible, you can be sure that you are working on a Uni Kassel client.

Hardware

The IT Service Center at the University of Kassel relies on high-quality business hardware from the current framework agreement, placing particular emphasis on reliability, performance, and sustainability.

To support our employees’ mobile work, we primarily use laptops. Depending on individual needs and specific requirements, we also offer customized hardware solutions.

This ensures that the technical equipment is precisely tailored to your needs and provides you with the best possible support in your work.

Procurement

Equipment orders are placed centrally through the IT Service Center. Please follow these steps to place an order:

1. Fill out the procurement request form and select one of the three models from our framework agreement on this form.

2. Review the different models available under our framework agreement to select the option that best suits your needs.

3. Please send the fully completed form via an email chain to it-beschaffung[at]uni-kassel[dot]de. Make sure the email is sent by the person responsible for your department’s cost center.

Please ensure that requests are submitted exclusively via the specified method. Requests received by us through any other means cannot be processed for organizational reasons.

This structured approach ensures an efficient and error-free ordering process and guarantees that your IT equipment is provided in accordance with the established guidelines.
