System Upgrade: No Checkouts from August 17 to 27

The Kassel University Library is switching to the open-source library management system FOLIO (The Future of Libraries is Open). The goal is to provide a technically innovative and user-friendly service platform.

The system migration will take place without interrupting service and is part of a statewide project involving university and college libraries in Hesse.

The following services will be limited from August 17 to 27, 2026:

  • Checkouts: No materials can be checked out during the specified period.

  • Returns: Returns can be made at the service desks. Loan periods have been adjusted so that returns are generally not required during the transition. No overdue notices will be issued during this period.

  • Hours of operation: The library locations will be open as usual—with one exception: The Murhard Library will be closed from August 17–21 due to relocation work.

  • KARLA Catalog Portal: Searches for books and journals are only possible via the hebis union catalog.

  • Access to electronic resources: The access links will changefor university members. Non-university users will not have access to electronic resources.

  • Orders/Reservations: Internal orders and reservations in the KARLA library catalog will not be transferred to the new system. Users should therefore create wish lists with important titles before August 17 so that they can easily reorder them after the transition. Interlibrary loan requests will be transferred to the new system.

Further information about the transition and answers to frequently asked questions can be found on the Kassel University Library website.

During the transition phase, the library team is available to answer any questions you may have.

Thank you for your understanding.
