Network Economics

The Network Economics group deals with all questions of the economic consideration of energy networks. The current focus is on methods for generating load profiles (conventionally and with the help of machine learning) and questions about energy markets and market designs. Further methodological focuses are optimization procedures and multi-criteria decision support.

The group thus represents a link between technical network studies in network planning and operation on the one hand, and energy economic analysis of incentives, investments and markets on the other. A resulting current focus is the modeling of prosumers in energy grids that adjust their demand or supply of electricity, natural gas, hydrogen, or heat based on economic incentives, thus helping to stabilize the grids.

Topics:

  • Generation of synthetic load profiles
  • Investigation of incentives in energy markets
  • Cross-sector modeling of prosumer plants in energy grids
