Unisport - Center for Sport, Exercise and Health at the University of Kassel is a central facility for the promotion of exercise, health, education and community on campus. It is aimed at students, employees and guests of the university and makes a significant contribution to a healthy, inclusive and future-oriented university culture.
Unisport promotes and organizes health, popular and competitive sports in a wide range of exercise fields. These include fitness and health training, team and individual sports, dance and movement arts, outdoor and endurance sports and water sports. With the Unifit fitness studio, the water sports area at the boathouse and other decentralized exercise rooms, efficient infrastructure is available for a low-threshold, quality-assured range of sports and exercise.
A central task of university sport is to promote health. Exercise, regeneration and mental health are seen as integral components of a healthy study and work culture. In addition to traditional course offerings, the program includes evidence-based prevention and health formats, including certified prevention courses in accordance with § 20 SGB V as well as exercise and health-related educational offerings. In close cooperation with the student health management program study well and other university stakeholders, Unisport contributes to the development of a health-promoting campus.
In addition to sporting activities, Unisport sees itself as an educational and experiential space. In addition to motor skills, the activities also promote cognitive, emotional and social skills. The ability to work in a team, take on responsibility, diversity awareness and health-related self-competence are strengthened and contribute to personal development and social integration. For first semester students, international students and new employees in particular, Unisport is an important place to meet and settle in at the university.
Unisport assumes responsibility for a sustainable sports and exercise culture. With the GreenSports program, ecological, social and economic sustainability principles are systematically integrated into offers, events and internal processes. Students, staff and exercise instructors are empowered to reflect on and actively shape sustainable action in sport.
As a partner university of elite sport, the University of Kassel supports student athletes in balancing their studies and sporting careers through university sport. National and international competition successes strengthen the university's profile and promote identification with campus life. Active involvement in the structures of the German University Sports Association (adh) ensures quality standards, networking and continuous exchange at national and state level.
University Sport is also a training and qualification center. It offers training places in the field of sports and fitness management and qualifies student trainers and course leaders. In close connection with the Institute of Sport and Sport Science, Unisport combines practice, science and innovation and enables evidence-based work and the transfer of current findings into the design of offers.
