Rowers come out on top in the February Lockdown Challenge

The Kassel University rowing team won the February Challenge organized by the Marburg University rowing team and took first place.

In January, the University of Marburg's university rowing team launched the February Challenge, encouraging university rowing teams to take part in various sporting activities in February. A total of seven teams and 112 participants took part in the challenge.

Each week, the participants were able to choose from various sports such as cycling or running and track their activities on their smartphones. Week after week, the Kassel team fought its way forward, moving from seventh to first place.

The second week was particularly challenging, in which altitude meters were collected. The Kassel rowing team showed full commitment and collected over 8000 meters of altitude. Among other things, they climbed over 1600 floors and started the third week with sore muscles. In this week, they could choose between the disciplines of 1000 m ergometer rowing, 1000 m running or 2000 m cycling for the sprint. In the third week, the team from the University of Kassel shared second place with the team from the University of Aachen.

Completely exhausted, the participants started the last week, in which longer distances, such as 30 km cycling, were on the program. Motivation was very high as first place was within reach. The participants spared no effort and in the end came out on top ahead of Münster in second place and Bremen and Kiel in third place.

We would like to thank Marburg University Rowing for the excellent organization and implementation of the challenge and look forward to defending the title at the Ergo-DHM in April.
