Summer Clash 2022 - Guest of the Roundnet Raccoons

On September 3, 2022, the Roundnet Raccoons Kassel hosted the Summer Clash 2022 with great support from the University of Kassel's General University Sports Department. With participants from communities from Kiel to Munich, Roundnet enthusiasts from all over Germany came to Kassel. International competitors also traveled to the Documenta city and took part in the tournament. These included teams from Canada and Taiwan. The international nature of the tournament gave the German national players taking part in the Summer Clash a foretaste of the World Championship, which will take place in Belgium the following weekend (8 - 11 September 2022).

The game was played in two divisions: Advanced/Pro (32 teams) and Intermediate (27 teams). In the group phase, 8 or 7 teams per group played each other. The knockout phase began with a round of eight final. The winners therefore had to prevail in all four consecutive matches. The Intermediate Division was won by a team from Hildesheim, consisting of Jessica Simonides and Moritz Dubiel. In the final of the Advanced/Pro division, a team from Munich/Koblenz and a team from Darmstadt/Regensburg faced each other. In an exciting three-set match, Ivo Heinen and Klara Bauer decided the game in their favor and won the Summer Clash 2022 in the Advanced/Pro Division.

The commitment of the many helpers of the Roundnet Raccoons Kassel in particular showed how a great tournament is organized this weekend. From the organization and catering to the subsequent after-party, everything ran smoothly and with great attention to detail. In order to start the game awake in the early hours of the morning, participants were able to enjoy free coffee or drinks sponsored by Red Bull. For lunch, participants were able to put together their own vegetarian or vegan wraps.

We are looking forward to the next Roundnet tournament in Kassel and would like to thank all the helpers and the University of Kassel's General University Sports Department once again.
