Springclash 2023 - Fast balls in the Aueparkhalle

This year's Roundnet Raccoons indoor tournament took place on the weekend of April 1 and 2, 2023. With the support of the General University Sports Department and the catering provided by the Studierendenwerk, a very successful tournament was organized.

Teams traveled from all over Germany and even from Switzerland to take part in the Roundnet tournament in Kassel. A total of 96 teams made their way to the Aueparkhalle, competing in the Beginner and Intermediate divisions on Saturday and in the Advanced and Pro divisions on Sunday. All divisions were held as mixed tournaments, with one woman competing with one man. This made the Springclash the first ever mixed pro tournament in Germany. The trend sport Roundnet has been very popular for a few years now and can be tried out in the university sports program.

On Saturday, the teams started the tournament with the group phase. The small yellow ball was played for victory in all 6 sections of the Aueparkhalle. Fast rallies and action-packed rallies promised all spectators an exciting program. The Beginner Division was won by the team "die Papayas" consisting of Sophie Beyer and Jonas Isselstein from Hamburg. In addition to the Beginner Division, the Intermediate Division also took place, in which the team "Running with the Wulff", consisting of Jeremias Traub and Theresa von Wulffen from Heidelberg, secured first place. Second place went to the team "MRC Kojoten" Alexander Solc and Miriam Stoerk (Karlsruhe/ Munich). Third place went to "You got served" Joscha Mertens and Klara Kazenmaier from Karlsruhe.

On Sunday, the players in the Advanced and Pro Divisions competed for the podium places. In the Advanced Division, the team "obb steht im Ausweis", Fabian Weirauch and Annalena Bott, took third place. The silver medal went to the team "Valery und Lobstertrap" Leonard Breitzmann and Ines Valery from Munich. The team "Flieg Doch" Lucas Christiani and Fabienne Lang from Dortmund won the top spot on the podium.
The Swiss team "Aloha", consisting of Laura Kunzelmann and Cedric Widin, won the gold medal in the Roundnet Pro category. Second place went to the Kassel team Raccooligans, Theresa Knauf and Fabian Claus. Third place also went to a player from Kassel, Nora Haas and her partner Peer Kanis as team "SuPeerNora".

The tournament spectacle was broadcast via the Twitch channel of the German Roundnet Association "Roundnet Germany" and could therefore also be followed from home.

Overall, the "Raccoons" were delighted with a successful tournament, many participants and a smooth process. The next Roundnet tournament will take place in August on the artificial turf pitches at the Auestadion. We would like to thank everyone who helped and are already looking forward to the Summerclash!
