Kassel rowing team successful at German University Championships in Krefeld

The Kassel University Rowing Team (KURT) took part in the German University Championships in Krefeld from July 4 to 6, 2025. The boats were particularly successful in the Novice Mixed class, where both teams qualified for the invitation to the adh Open "Novice Four" as part of the FISU World University Games 2025 in Duisburg by finishing in the top 12. In addition, a runner-up university title was won in the Novice Mixed Four and a third place in the Challenge Mixed Eight. This and the positive team atmosphere, in which everyone cheered and supported each other beyond their own races, contributed to an all-round successful regatta weekend.

In the Novice Mixed double four, the team of coxswain Florian Wilhelm, consisting of Stine Böcher, Carina Kirch, Lennart Warnecke and Oliver Kempf, achieved 6th place in the B final. The second boat of coxswain Tina Noppe with Joana Mattes, Lennard Fröhlich, Lena Schöneweiß and Nils Krahmer achieved second place in the A final and also occupies this position in the overall ranking of the race. Both teams are looking forward to taking part in the Novice Four and would like to thank the German University Sports Association (adh) for making this possible.

This year, for the first time, three two-person boats were able to compete for the University of Kassel. This was made possible by the support of Kassel rowing clubs (Rudergemeinschaft Kassel, Ruderverein Kurhessen Kassel, Ruderverein Cassel 2010), which provided their athletes with the boats for the regatta and training opportunities. Samira Boddin and Clara Fahrenbach achieved 5th place in the A final of the women's double sculls challenge, Timo Baierl and Maximilian Rohner achieved 1st place in the B final of the men's double sculls and Julia Hädrich and Lara Horster achieved 1st place in the B final of the open women's double sculls.

Johanna Schäfer, Aika Bohlen, Tina Noppe, Lina Froschauer and Lennart Warnecke (St.) took 2nd place in the B final of the novice women's double scull. The novice men's double four with Lennard Fröhlich, Nils Krahmer, Jakob Gudella, Oliver Kempf and Elke Hafermann (St.) took 4th place in the A final and thus in the overall standings.

In the A final, the Challenge women's double four - consisting of Fabienne Jensen, Joana Mattes, Lena Schöneweiß and Nele Siebert - had to admit defeat in the final sprint for third place and thus achieved fourth place. The Challenge Mixed Four with Nele Fuchs, Karoline Gudella, Pascal Schmidt and Rene Greiner-Petter as well as Julia Hädrich in the Women's Single were eliminated in the preliminary race against strong boats.

The Challenge Mixed Eight started this year with an almost completely new line-up and took third place with Rene Greiner-Petter, Clara Fahrenbach, Samira Boddin, Stine Böcher, Nele Siebert, Lennard Fröhlich, Max Rohner, Timo Baierl and helmsman Simon Nowak, thus reaching the winners' podium.

With the regatta, the team bids farewell to coach Florian Wilhelm, thanking him for his many years of commitment and intensive support during numerous training sessions and competitions. The team would also like to thank all the coaches, the university sports department and the Kassel rowing club for their support and the joint boat transportation.
