Frequently Asked Questions About Membership
Students and employees of the University of Kassel, members of the “Friends of University Sports in Kassel e.V.” support association, and guests. Guests pay higher fees and can register for courses only at a later date.
You need a membership for each class. Which one depends on the class:
- Basic Membership (€2.50 per month, guests €8): general sports program. Members of the Friends of the University Association do not need this; the general program is already accessible to them through the association.
- Fit & Healthy Pass (€5, guests €15): fitness and health classes and the #UniKasselVersitätStaysFit online classes
- Water Sports Pass: Water sports classes; see the Water Sports FAQ
- UNIfit Plan: Gym access; see the UNIfit FAQ
All passes include basic membership, so you only ever need one. If you already have the basic membership and want to switch, send a short email to unisport[at]uni-kassel[dot]de.
No. Membership fees are collected monthly via direct debit until you actively cancel your membership—even if you aren't taking any classes. Withdrawing from school or the end of your employment contract does not terminate your membership.

Yes, for important reasons such as illness, injury, or an internship or job outside of Kassel. The leave of absence lasts for full months, starting on the first of each month. Send us an informal request with supporting documentation in a timely manner. This cannot be done retroactively.
Please provide us with your new address, name, or bank account information in writing or by email. Direct debits are only possible from German accounts; if you have a foreign account, please contact the office directly. Cash payments are accepted only with a €5 processing fee.
Students and employees of the University of Kassel are covered by accident insurance through the Hessen Accident Insurance Fund, even when participating in live online courses. Civil servants are covered by the State of Hessen’s workers’ compensation program. Members of the Friends of the University Association are covered by the sports insurance provided by the Hessian State Sports Federation. Guests participate at their own risk. Since the Accident Insurance Fund does not cover property damage, we recommend that everyone obtain private liability insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions for Instructors
Send your qualifications and certificates, resume, a brief cover letter, and your preferred course to fitundgesund[at]uni-kassel[dot]de. You can find the courses we're currently looking for in the job board.
During the semester and during semester breaks, generally on weekdays between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Weekend classes are also available.
Before each course period begins, all instructors fill out a re-registration form. We then determine who will teach which course, when, and where. Course times are reassigned each time and are not automatically carried over.
We’ll send you a teaching assignment form, which you’ll fill out and return to us. After that, the Human Resources department will mail you a timesheet for the course period. If you want to submit multiple timesheets during that period, make a copy of it. Submit the completed timesheet to us digitally or by mail.
Payment is made on the last business day of the month—if you submit your timesheet at the beginning of the month, you’re guaranteed to receive your payment by the end of the month. Online submission isn’t possible because instructors are considered teaching staff, and the Human Resources department must approve it.
Depending on the course, we'll assign you to a pay grade based on your certifications and experience. If you submit proof of new training or certifications to us, your pay may increase.
If possible, find a substitute yourself—preferably a class instructor who is already active with UNI:Sport. If you can't find anyone, the class will be canceled.
Yes, you are insured through UNI:Sport, which is a member of the General German University Sports Association (adh).
