Pedro Pineda arbeitet seit 2018 als Postdoktorand am INCHER-Kassel an einem Projekt über die Institutionalisierung von Lehrevaluationen in Deutschland, den USA und Kolumbien. Er ist Stipendiat der Fritz-Thyssen-Stiftung, die sein Forschungsvorhaben unterstützt. Seine Forschungsinteressen liegen in Hochschulforschung, Bildungssoziologie, Bildungspsychologie und Vergleichender Erziehungswissenschaft. Er folgt einem neo-institutionalistischen Ansatz, um Governance, Organisationsstrukturen, Lehre, Forschung, Lernen und Studentenevaluationen zu erforschen.
