Awareness in dealing with People with Disabilities

Online Workshop

The encounter with people with disabilities is a great challenge for many. Accordingly, the focus of our work is the confrontation with disability in order to enable a respectful encounter with people with disabilities. The remedial diagnostic workshop sees itself as a "livable space". Consequently, we offer a workshop to raise awareness in dealing with people with disabilities. Accordingly, the focus of the workshop is not on knowing what disability means. Rather, the focus relates to increasing empathy and sensitivity in people who have had little to no experience with disability.

The participants receive a theoretical introduction to the topics of inclusion, UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, disability and accessibility.

In the practical part, the participants have an interactive experience with disability-specific aids. Here, it is important for us to make clear that disabilities are not relativized by the simulations, but that respect as well as empathy towards people with disabilities are built up.

In the subsequent reflection and discussion, the focus is on sharing the simulation experiences and avoiding relativization of disability.
