Thinking digital media and inclusion together - a "diclusion" research workshop in the subject of religion

Dear students, dear colleagues,

Digital media and inclusion - two central topics that are increasingly shaping our everyday school life. But how can both aspects be combined in a meaningful, practical, economical and pragmatic way? And what does this mean in concrete terms for your own lessons?

About the associated research project

Dear students, dear colleagues,

Digital media and inclusion - two central topics that are increasingly shaping our everyday school life. But how can both aspects be combined in a meaningful, practical, economical and pragmatic way? And what does this mean in concrete terms for your own lessons?

DIKLUSION is an innovative approach that looks at digital media and inclusion together - based on a broad understanding of inclusion: every learner has individual strengths, prerequisites and needs that we as teachers want to address. Digital media open up new possibilities - e.g. for individualized learning, differentiation of language levels (without sacrificing religious language), creative forms of teaching (e-books) or even dialogues with biblical figures via chat, creating and reflecting on prayers for young people through AI.

The training, which has the character of a research workshop (experimental, exploratory learning), presents practical methods and digital tools that help to think digitally and inclusively in terms of the learning requirements of your students - based on the curricular requirements of the subject of religion.

Specifically, the following question will guide us in designing a digitally inclusive lesson idea: "Where can we maximize opportunities for inclusion in the lesson concept and where can we minimize risks of exclusion?"

The most important points at a glance:

  • Target group: Teachers and students of (Protestant, Catholic, Islamic, Alevi, Orthodox) religion at elementary school, special schools and at lower secondary level, grades 3 - 6

  • Format: Online training (hybrid or face-to-face possible on request)

  • Dates: Three units by mutual agreement (+ one trial in the classroom)

  • Number of participants: max. 5 people (intensive exchange & personal support)

  • Further training: Recognized by the Hessian Teachers' Academy

What you can expect - and take away with you:

  • In-depth background knowledge on digital media & inclusion in the school context

  • Concrete digital materials and tools that you can use directly in the classroom

  • Your own digitally inclusive teaching idea

Good to know:
In conversations, teachers have told me that they still feel unsure about using digital media or inclusive settings:
"I've only used the smartboard so far. Is that enough?" "I'm not particularly tech-savvy - do I have to be able to do all that already?" "We don't have any tablets at school or any other digital media - does it still make sense to take part?"

The answer is: No, you don't need any prior knowledge. And yes: even without digital media at your school, it can make sense to take part. We would look at your individual situation on site and look for solutions.

This means that the training is also explicitly aimed at colleagues without prior knowledge and without digital equipment.

In a calm setting with plenty of room for questions and discussion, we will examine your individual situation together and introduce structure and good ideas.

Above you will find a poster for the training course - you are welcome to forward it to colleagues or post it in the staff room. Download the poster
