Big Blue Button (video conferencing system)
Overview
1. basic information
BigBlueButton is offered as a supplementary video conferencing platform alongside Zoom. It is particularly suitable for courses, meetings and collaborative work.
The service is aimed at members of the university, in particular teaching staff and employees of the University of Kassel.
The IT Service Center of the University of Kassel operates BigBlueButton in cooperation with the service provider infra.run.
2. brief description
BigBlueButton is a web-based video conferencing system that can be used directly in the browser without additional software. It enables web conferences with up to 100 participants and offers numerous functions for online teaching.
Zoom is available as an alternative video conferencing solution, which is also supported and recommended by the IT Service Center.

Courses: Conducting online lectures with interactive elements such as surveys and group work.
Team meetings: Virtual meetings of project groups using the whiteboard and shared notes.
5. technical requirements
For organizers: UniAccount, PC/laptop with current browser (recommended: Chrome, Chromium or Firefox), webcam as well as headset or loudspeaker and microphone.
For participants: No account required, access via invitation link, use of a current browser and appropriate hardware.
6. use and access
Organizers: Require a BBB license, which can be activated via Identity Management (IDM): License for organizers
- Participants: Can join the meeting without registering via the link provided.

9. special notes (data protection, terms of use)
BigBlueButton meets high data protection standards and offers increased data security. The platform runs on servers in Germany and does not process any personal data outside the EU.
BigBlueButton is based on open source software. It is used in accordance with the terms of use of the University of Kassel.
