Field of application

Centralized printing, copying and scanning on multifunctional devices at all campus locations; suitable for academic work, teaching and administrative documents.

Who is it suitable for?

For all members of the university - students, academic staff and administrative and service units.

Regional users without a UniAccount can also use the printing services.

Responsibility

Device provision, operation, support & maintenance: Triumph Adler (since device replacement at the end of March 2025).

Support Q-Pilot: IT Service Center (ITS).

2. short description

Description

CampusCard-controlled multifunctional devices enable follow-me printing, classic copying, color/w/w printouts and scan-to-mail or USB/SD. Print jobs can be submitted from university computers, private end devices (via Q-Pilot client) or removable data carriers.

Alternatives

No central alternative planned; external copy/print stores can be used for special requirements (large formats, book binding, etc.).

Functions

  • Follow-Me-Printing (print output only after card authentication)

  • Copying with duplex, zoom, stapling/punching

  • Printing from USB/SD media (PDF, JPEG, TIFF)

  • Scan-to-me (PDF to university e-mail address) and scan-to-USB/SD

  • Mobile print (send print job by e-mail)

  • Cost center accounting for employees, wallet function on CampusCard, guest cards

  • Q-Pilot client for Windows, macOS, Linux incl. Follow-Me-Queue

4th deployment scenario

Practical examples

  • Seminar documents on-demand: Students send slides to the Follow-Me-Queue, authenticate themselves at the nearest device and pick up printouts immediately - no forgotten or accidental printouts.

  • Official copying: Administrative staff copy confidential personnel files; billing takes place automatically via the stored cost center, which means that no private funds are charged.

5. technical requirements

Prerequisites

  • Device in the university network (LAN/eduroam) or VPN connection.
  • Q-Pilot client: open ports 632, 631, 515, 37200-37201 to the server server01.printcenter.verwaltung.uni-kassel.de; port 515 must not be used locally. Q-Pilot software
  • Valid CampusCard with minimum credit (1.04 € color / 0.20 € b/w) or cost center activation.

6. use and access

Account and login

  • Authentication always with CampusCard at the card reader or by entering the card number in the Q-Pilot dialog.

  • Guests receive a €5 guest card (€2 starting credit).

  • Print jobs expire automatically after 3 days; can be canceled on the device using the cancel button.

9. special notes (data protection, terms of use)

Data protection and security

Print jobs can only be accessed via the associated card number; third parties and system administrators cannot view the content. Automatic deletion after three days protects against data leakage.

Legal notices and license information

Use in accordance with the IT user regulations of the University of Kassel; cost regulations (price list 01.02.2023) are binding. Devices and Q-Pilot software are provided under university license in cooperation with Triumph Adler.
