Subject classification Murhard

The arrangement system at the Brüder-Grimm-Platz location follows different rules than those at the other locations of the university library. The Murhard library is the first location of the UB whose holdings have for the most part already been converted to RVK.

Behind this is a system used at libraries throughout Germany: the Regensburg Union Classification (RVK). It serves as a common subject indexing tool and is suitable for use in academic libraries and institutions of all sizes, for open access holdings as well as for stacks. The classification is divided into 34 main groups, which are represented by capital letters. A second capital letter marks the associated subgroup. A three- to six-digit numerical sequence is available for further fine structuring. The complete signature also includes an encrypted classification word. RVK online
